Another bonus night of action in the Spalding and District Table Tennis League was well-attended last week with six tables in use – including one young visitor.
Many hard-fought practice games were played out but, however, none of the many postponed fixtures were fulfilled.
As a result, some teams will have a very busy time in the second half of the season (which got under way on Wednesday night).
To further complicate matters in Division Two, Casey’s Pingers have lost two members of their team.
The committee has met and decided that if possible a new player will be drafted in or alternatively players from a three-man team at the foot of Division One will help.
The latter would mean the team would not be able to play in the Maryland and Guardian cup competitions.
It is understood that another team is unlikely to be available for some time either.
The committee is very aware of the problems this can cause and is asking team captains to inform the match secretary immediately they are aware of a fixture problem.
Some players have asked if sanctions could be used for teams postponing matches without suitable notice and the matter is under consideration.
Meanwhile, it is hoped the draw for round one of the Marylands Cup will be available in time to be played on January 18.
