Winger Lee Beeson is one of two transfer targets for Spalding United boss Dave Frecklington ahead of Saturday’s home clash with Kidsgrove Athletic (3pm).
The Tulips have put in a seven-day approach for Beeson, who was part of the side that won the UCL Premier Division under Pat Rayment back in 2014.
Beeson was at The Zeeco Stadium on Monday to see Spalding beat Stamford 2-1 and would be a direct replacement for Cenk Acar, who has returned to parent club Lincoln City.
The other target is a mystery striker – with Frecklington looking to beef up his table-topping squad, who he feels will now be a scalp for the rest of the division.
“It’s Kidsgrove next – and it’s never easy to be top in these kind of games. Last time we went top, we got shot down. They will want to turn us over and will come to our place to try and frustrate and upset us. If we can get something it sets us up for the big one at home to Shaw Lane the following week.
“I’m looking to bring two players in this week, a wide midfielder and hopefully a striker.
“The winger is Lee Beeson – we’ve put an approach in for him and will wait and see what happens. I’ve worked with him at Worksop and Stamford, so I know what he’s about.
“The striker is 50/50. The squad is a little bit thin, but 11 out of the 14 that were in the squad at Stamford were with us on day one. As we are at the moment, we’ve got that continuity, spirit and togetherness that you need.”
Spalding also visit Rushall Olympic in the Integro League Cup on Tuesday (7.45pm).
Meanwhile, the Tulips have been named the Evo-Stik NPL First Division’s club of the month for December – when then won all four of their games without conceding a goal.
