Spalding RFC rooted to the bottom at Christmas after Ashbourne beating

It looks like Spalding RFC will need to launch a great escape in 2017 after a heavy 78-14 defeat at Ashbourne on Saturday.

That loss leaves Town rooted to the bottom of Midlands Two East (North) at Christmas – and they are some ten points from safety.

Having only won once in 11 games, The Elephants will need to hit the ground running in their first game of 2017 against relegation rivals Kesteven at the Memorial Field on January 7.

A full report from the Ashbourne clash will be online at www.spaldingvoice.co.uk on Monday.

RESULTS

Midlands Two East (North): Ashbourne 78 Spalding 14; Coalville 13 Southwell 27; Kesteven 27 Nottingham Casuals 9; Loughborough 20 Newark 27; Market Bosworth 17 Melbourne 36; West Bridgford 15 Matlock 19.
