More clinics at Johnson Community Hospital – and bus service could return

Moves are being made to bring more clinics and services to Spalding’s Johnson Community Hospital.

Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has recently begun running gynaecology clinics at the site and will soon introduce a paediatrics clinic.
Meanwhile, talks over resuming a bus service to the hospital are also ongoing.

John Turner, of South Lincolnshire Clinical Commissioning Group, said there is a desire to provide care closer to where people live.
He added: “We acknowledge that the hospital already provides a wide range of services but also realise that there is scope to provide even more.

“That is why we at South Lincolnshire CCG are already discussing ways of increasing the range of services that are available at the hospital with Lincolnshire Community Health Services and will be talking to residents, patients, families and their carers in the New Year about what more they would like to see offered locally.”

Clinics already run at the hospital include renal, cardiology, pacemaker review, lymphoedema and oncology.

Meanwhile, Brylaine Travel has said it is seriously considering resuming a bus service to the hospital after cutting it in 2014.

At the time it said it was due to insufficient passengers and “the risk northbound contained in turning right into the hospital and exiting the hospital on departure”.

A spokesman told The Voice: “We are taking this matter into serious consideration as we plan our service amendments for 2017.
“However, the safety issue still remains a barrier.”

She added that issues surrounding cost and lack of formal bus stops also remain.

A recent South Lincolnshire Clinical Commissioning Group heard it would cost £8,000 to put a service in place.
