Boss Langford can see plenty of positives despite cruel Spalding Reserves defeat

Improving Spalding United Reserves were cruelly denied a ChromaSport PDFL Division One draw by a last-gasp Stamford Belvedere strike on Saturday.

Tom Holland’s strike from a corner gave the hosts a 2-1 victory – and left the Tulips’ second string cursing their luck.

Lucas Williams put Stamford ahead in the first half following a defensive mix-up.

Spalding improved after the break and went close through Marcin Minczynski and Scott Beale, before Danny Brewster finally levelled.

However, the hosts had the last word thanks to Holland’s late effort.

Manager James Langford said: “The result was really harsh on the lads, who yet again battled for every ball.

“But we must continue to take positives from the performances as it shows the clear progress from the lads in the past two months.

“We have added three or four experienced players to a young group and in a short period of time have gone from being heavily beaten to losing by the odd goal and being competitive in a tough league.

“I’m sure with the effort shown and continued progress we will start getting points on the board. Every player was brilliant and we are starting to look like a team. I hope we can continue our progress going into the new year.”
