In the last week there has been press and social media comments regarding the Christmas Market in Spalding.

Yes, it was a disappointing turnout compared to previous years. The retailers’ groups Spalding Town Retailers’ Association and The Crescent Traders’ Association did not have any involvement in the recruitment of stalls or activities. This is what the former town centre manager was asked to organise as part of his yearly events.

We can continue to finger point but it would be better to get different groups together in the new year and start planning for a bigger and better Christmas market for 2017.

This month is the most important time of the year for retailers. With only 17 days to go until Christmas Day it is important that people not only shop in Spalding but also support independent stores, whether it is for local produce or Christmas gifts and also support the local market which will also be on Christmas Eve.

As it is now the busiest time of year, whether getting presents, food or going to parties, it’s easy to forget that loved ones, family and friends are just as important this time of year. Also remember to keep an eye on your elderly neighbours.
I would to like to wish everyone a Happy Christmas and a prosperous and healthy 2017.
