Away defeats for South Holland pair Spalding United and Holbeach United

South Holland duo Spalding United and Holbeach United both suffered league defeats away from home on Saturday.

The Tulips went down 1-0 at Basford United in Evo-Stik NPL Division One South, while the Tigers slipped up 3-2 at Northampton Sileby Rangers in the ChromaSport UCL Premier Division.

It’s now five league games without a win for Spalding, who were seen off by a late strike from Fabian Smith (76).

Despite the defeat, Dave Frecklington’s side remain third in the table.

Meanwhile, Holbeach have now suffered back-to-back losses in the aftermath of Tom Roberts’ resignation as player/manager last Saturday.

Aaron Eyett was among the scorers for the Tigers at Sileby, but Martyn Cundy is still searching for a first win as caretaker/boss.

Fifth-placed Holbeach also stay exactly where they were in the standings.

Down in the ChromaSport PDFL, the big Premier Division derby between Pinchbeck United and Holbeach United Reserves was postponed due to the latter being unable to raise a side.

Moulton Harrox, meanwhile, went out of the Lincs Junior Cup on penalties following a 4-4 draw at North Somercotes United.

In Division One, Long Sutton Athletic won a thriller at Oakham Reserves 5-4, while Sutton Bridge United beat Wittering Harriers 3-1 at home.

Plenty more football in Thursday’s edition of The Spalding and South Holland Voice.
