Spalding billiards ace Mick steers Lincolnshire to national championships glory

Spalding and District Billiards League cue ace Mick Johnson played his part to help Lincolnshire win the National County Billiards Championships.

Johnson, who plays for Consti B, was joined by Lincoln duo Rob Hall and Dean Manders at the Nuneaton event.

The trio qualified for the event by winning the Eastern Counties title earlier in the year and defeated teams from Cornwall, Yorkshire, Cambridgeshire and Derbyshire en-route to winning the coveted crown.

  • Table-topping Holbeach C were handed a surprise 7-0 beating by previously struggling Gosberton A in Spalding and District Billiards League on Monday night.

Andy Shephard (R120), Jack Craft (R100) and Norman Gookey (R80) all won for Gosberton.

Two top players shone as Holbeach A beat hosts Consti B 5-2. The above-mentioned Johnson (O170) pocketed a super 81 break as well as a 61, while Hugh Pinner (O120) bagged an 80 break to help his side to glory.

Elsewhere, Neil Burton (R80) made a 20 break as Crowland A pipped Holbeach B 4-3, while Shane White’s (O20) 33 break helped Gosberton B beat Crowland B 5-2.
