Frecklington delighted by new Spalding United additions ahead of Sheffield FC trip

Three more new faces have arrived at Spalding United this week with boss Dave Frecklington continuing his revamp.

The Tulips have swooped to sign young defender Charlie Gatter on a one-month loan deal from Burton Albion and have snapped up winger Jack Wightwick from UCL Premier Division side Boston Town.

As well as bringing in those two, Frecklington has also added the experienced Terry Fleming to his coaching staff.

Fleming has vast knowledge of Evo-Stik NPL Division One South as both a player and manager with Lincoln United.

Versatile defender James Cullingworth has been released, though, while young striker Jonny Lockie has joined Holbeach United on loan (see story above).

Frecklington is delighted with the changes he has made.

He said: “I played with Terry for two or three years at Lincoln United and wanted him on the

coaching staff here from day one. He’s a very valuable addition.

“I’m glad he’s now able to join us – it’ll give Chris Hamilton (player/coach) time to focus on getting fit and playing.

“As for Charlie, he’s an exciting young talent and we’re delighted to have him on loan. It’s great to have a relationship with Burton, too.

“Jack is a tricky winger that I’ve been aware of for a while and we’re pleased to have him.”

All three should be involved at Sheffield FC on Saturday (3pm), as the high-flying Tulips bid to bounce back from their first loss of the season against Leek.

Frecklington added: “Going to Sheffield FC is never easy, they are a huge club.

“But if we want to be winning this league or at least challenging in the top five, we need to win this kind of game.”

Injured duo Brad Barraclough and Neal Spafford remain sidelined for the Tulips, who go into the game four points behind leaders Shaw Lane AFC in second place.
