Two off as Spalding United edge out Holbeach United in fiery friendly derby

It’s rarely dull when Holbeach United and Spalding United square off – and that was the case in Tuesday night’s friendly at Carter’s Park.

A first-half penalty from Lincoln City loanee Andrew Wright settled the contest, but it was two red cards and a mass brawl before half time that left everyone talking.

A late tackle from Nathan Whitehead triggered the melee, with both he and Stacy Cartwright – who reacted to the challenge – given their marching orders.

The South Holland duo now look forward to competitive games of  this Saturday.

Spalding visit Stamford in the semi-finals of the Lincs FA Senior Cup (3pm), while the Tigers host Swaffham Town in the FA Cup (3pm).

Elsewhere, Moulton Harrox lost 3-1 at Wyberton in their final friendly on Tuesday.

See Thursday’s edition of The Spalding and South Holland Voice for previews to all of the weekend football.
