A church hall is in need of help from South Holland residents – with just a click of a computer’s mouse.

St Mary’s Church Hall in Pinchbeck is trying to win a public vote to be awarded £25,000 for urgent repairs.

Organisers have already found the money for some of the refurbishment – but desperately need help to fund the remainder.

The hall’s asbestos roof was replaced with an insulated metal roof in October, and a new boiler and some PVC windows and doors were installed.

Work that still needs doing includes kitchen refurbishment (estimate £11,000), new toilets, including disabled provision (£9,000), and replacement of rotting windows and creation of emergency exit (£4,500).

Peter Lake, who made the funding bid to Engage Mutual on behalf of the church hall committee, said: “What we’re asking for at this stage is simply for people to visit the website and vote for us.

“The hall is very well used but is showing a few signs of wear. Our bid is behind others at the moment and we really need support. If everyone who knows of our church hall was able to register a vote, it could make all the difference.

“If we were fortunate to be awarded one of the two £25,000 grants, it would be spent with local tradesmen.”

The hall is regularly used by uniformed groups, a playgroup, a monthly pop-in, dance classes and the RBL.

Jane Amess, who runs 1st Pinchbeck (St Mary) Guides, which meets in the hall every week and has done so since it was built in 1967, said: “If we have a nice hall it is obviously a better environment for us but it would also encourage more people to hire it.”
