Councillor’s ride for good cause

An intrepid councillor is gearing up for an overnight cross-country motorcycle ride in memory of a friend who died of cancer.
South Holland district councillor Jim Astill will don his leathers to take part in the Sunset2Sunrise challenge – which sees riders set off as the sun goes down to travel 256 miles.
The event, from Holyhead in North Wales to Skegness, is organised by Bikers4Macmillan and takes place on Saturday, June 25 – the Saturday closest to the longest day of the year.
Coun Astill said: “I’m taking part because I love riding my motorbike and also in memory of a friend, Joyce Bywater, who lost her battle with cancer in 2012.
“Macmillan provided her family with valuable advice and support before, during and after treatment.
“They also organised a nurse and provided end-of-life care.”
This will be the eighth year that Sunset2Sunrise has been held.
Last year’s event saw a total of 148 riders and 18 pillions take part.
