A proposed sports academy in Holbeach has received a £340,000 grant and could be built by the end of the year.
Kings Academy, as it will be known, will comprise five grass pitches, four changing rooms, an officials’ room, kitchen and community hall.
Holbeach United Football Club has always had a thriving youth section and this project – started by the late town businessman John King – will provide facilities for all age groups and abilities from under-six to under-18.
Phil Barnes, chairman and a trustee of Holbeach United Community Sports Academy, said: “This new grassroots facility will not only now mean that Holbeach United Youth FC teams will have a permanent football home but the local community will also be able to benefit and use this new purpose-built facility.”
The project, based on a former nursery site in Pennyhill Road, has been seven years in the planning.
And the huge grant from the Premier League and The FA Facilities fund is the final piece to the jigsaw before the £504,000 development can get under way.
