Holbeach United looking to bolster their squad ahead of UCL transfer deadline

Holbeach United player/boss Tom Roberts is hoping to add a few fresh faces to his squad on the ChromaSport UCL Premier Division’s deadline day.

The Tigers have 13 games still to play before the end of the season on May 2 – a run that will see them play two four-game weeks.

The first of them begins on Saturday, with Holbeach visiting Northampton Sileby Rangers (3pm) ahead of further away dates at title favourites Kempston Rovers (Tuesday, 7.45pm), rock-bottom Huntingdon Town (Thursday, 7.45pm) and high-flying Kirby Muxloe (Saturday week, 3pm).

Roberts has already snapped up ex-Hull City defender Oli Donald on dual forms from Bottesford Town and hopes to bring in two under-21 talents from Histon Town before today’s (Thursday) deadline.

Last weekend’s 3-1 loss at Newport Pagnell (see page 30) ended Holbeach’s hopes of the title, with Roberts now focusing on finishing as high as he can before the UCL League Cup final against Division One champions Peterborough Sports.

“The league have done us no favours with this run of fixtures,” said Roberts. “It’ll just be a case of giving every player in the squad some minutes.

“Our target now is to finish as high as we can and get everybody fit and ready for the cup final.

“Obviously the Kempston game is the pick of the bunch, but we’ll just take it game by game.

“We need a few more bodies in to cope with these fixtures, so we’re working hard to get a few more signed on.”

Defenders Stacy Cartwright and Jamie Stevens return on Saturday.

  • Easter Monday’s derby with Wisbech Town at Carter’s Park was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. That has been rearranged for April 28 (7.45pm).
