Spalding’s Castle is hosting the national under-18 bowls singles this Sunday

Spalding Indoor Bowls Club is hosting the final stages of the EIBA National under-18 singles event at the Castle Sports Complex on Sunday.

Having successfully staged the finals last season, Spalding IBC has again been handed the prestigious honour – with 16 of the best young players in the country having had to qualify through their areas.

Play commences at 9am with a round robin league system, where only the group winner qualifies for the semi-finals.

The last four is straight knockout and the clashes are expected to commence at 6.15pm, with the final due at 7.45pm.

Entry is free, so all fans are invited to come along and watch some great bowling.

  • Spalding Indoor Bowls Club’s over-60s team made the daunting trip to Lincoln last Thursday in their latest Division One fixture.

Lincoln A have won this league for 15 consecutive years, so this was always going to be a tough game – especially playing away from home on their much faster rinks.

And so it turned out to be, as Lincoln finished 54 shots ahead with an 138-84 success.

However, Spalding did win on two rinks to take four match points.

Spalding’s best rink was skipped by Chris Stagles, ably assisted by Roger Perkins, Ken Challans and Mick Laidler.

Captain for the day was David Lunn assisted by Mike Taylor.

  • Spalding IBC’s friendly team were in fine form against Grantham IBC on Saturday.

Spalding raced into an early lead, which they held onto throughout the game to secure a final score 118-81.

Their best winning rink was Alec Cooper, Kelvin Crane, Abs Belding and Lily Drawbridge.

Geoff Craft was captain for the day.
