Members of community groups, not-for-profit organisations and charities are invited to a free workshop to ensure their group is fit to achieve its goals, is sustainable and eligible to apply for funding.
The session, run by Lincolnshire Community and Voluntary Service (LCVS), is designed to help groups carry out a health check of their organisation to ensure it is able to continue and thrive into the future.
Marie Chapman, LCVS senior community development and volunteering officer, said: “We know how busy life is and groups are often working on limited resources and with limited time, which makes it all the more important to take a step back and have an objective look at what is being done and how it is being done to see if improvements can be made. That little bit of reflection can be exactly what is needed to achieve your goals more easily.
“For example, a group with a proper constitution can apply for grants that aren’t accessible without. Giving timely consideration of what is going to happen when a current funding stream runs out may be the difference between a group carrying on its work into the future or having to fold. Getting a few agreed policies in place now may prevent a lot of unnecessary work and heartache.
“This workshop provides that opportunity for reflection in a structured environment with helpful tips and ideas thrown in that groups may not have thought about before.
“It’s as relevant to a small ‘knit and natter’ group as it is to the local branch of a national charity and if changes need to be made, LCVS is here to offer free support along the way.”
The sessions encourage good governance, which is all about considering and defining the long term direction of groups, including its objectives or purposes, implementing policies and activities to achieve objectives, complying with legal requirements and ensuring accountability to those with an interest or ‘stake’ in the charity.
The free ‘Getting your house in order – organisational health check’ session takes place 10am to midday, on Monday, February 22, at South Holland District Council offices, Priory Road, Spalding PE11 2XE.
