Endersbee cracker is scant consolation for Spalding Reserves in Baston defeat

Daniel Pick scored a hat-trick as Baston came from behind to beat Spalding United Reserves 4-2 in ChromaSport PDFL Division One on Saturday.

Visitors Spalding bossed the opening 35 minutes with numerous half chances wasted, but did finally open the scoring through the unlikely source of skipper Dave Endersbee.

With his back to goal, the defender collected a loose ball just inside the box and cleverly dummied to go left before turning right and thrashing his effort into the top corner.

Baston bounced back before the break, hitting the bar before levelling the scores when Pick bagged his first of the afternoon with a neat finish.

The goal gave the hosts belief and the momentum was very much with them as the second half commenced.

They were first to every ball and constantly looked a threat down the right hand side.

Midway through the half Pick put Baston ahead with his second, bundling home at the back post.

However, Spalding substitute Jack Wycherley soon drew things level again. Within five minutes of the restart he raced on to a through ball by Jamie Cartlidge and slotted the ball home, despite Baston’s appeals for offside.

Unfortunately for Kev Nottingham’s Tulips, it wasn’t the springboard they needed to go on and win the game.

Instead, Spalding looked tired and short of ideas. Baston could sense the three points were there for the taking and mounted a siege of late attacks as they looked to regain the lead.

With ten minutes remaining Greg Rawlinson pounced on a loose ball to drive through to make it 3-2.

Then, in the dying moments, Pick scored his third in a similar fashion.

The loss leaves Spalding eighth in the table, 16 points off the top two.

Spalding Utd Res: Elderkin, Philips, Endersbee, Nicholls, Newton (Harrison), Chilvers, McGuire, Rose, Cartlidge, Mroczka (Britton) Cannon (Wycherley).
