Danny Hussey has backed Josh Moreman to fire Spalding United into the play-offs after the striker turned down a move to King’s Lynn Town.
The 16-goal hitman, Spalding’s leading scorer this season, held talks with the higher graded Linnets before opting to stay at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field for the remainder of the campaign.
Tulips’ assistant boss Hussey has praised Moreman’s decision and reckons he could easily end up as top scorer in Evo-Stik NPL Division One South.
The Spalding number two is also delighted to see the speedy frontman show some loyalty to a club that lost Jake Newman (Stamford) and Mitch Griffiths (Lincoln United) over the Christmas period.
“Personally, I am really pleased with Josh,” said Hussey. “It’s great to see one of our players show such great loyalty.
“He’s got 16 goals for us already – and I’ve told him to go out and get more to finish as top scorer in this league. It’s certainly not beyond him.
“Josh has been brilliant for us and seems to like it here. We’re really happy with him too and it’s great that he’s staying.
“We’re bang in the play-off picture and keeping him certainly improves our chances.”
Moreman should be a part of the Spalding squad that will host Sheffield FC on Saturday (3pm).
Key defender Neal Spafford also returns from injury, with the Tulips having a clean bill of health.
That was boosted by the postponement of last Saturday’s trip to Kidsgrove Athletic due to a frozen pitch.
Hussey admits that the Sir Halley surface has also been in a bad state in recent weeks, but is hopeful Saturday’s game will be on if there’s no more rain.
He added: “We like to get the ball down and play, but our pitch hasn’t really allowed that lately. It’s been horrendous.
“Hopefully the pitch will be in a better state this weekend. If it isn’t, we’ll just have to battle hard like we did against Romulus.”
Meanwhile, Spalding have registered Holbeach United striker Jordan Thomas on dual forms. The Tulips have returned the favour by allowing defender Adam Jackson to do the same with the
Tigers.
Hussey added: “It’s great to see the two clubs working together at last.
“Over the years we’ve always been against each other.”
