Busy Spalding GP practice gets ‘good’ rating from watchdog

A Spalding doctors’ surgery with almost 20,000 patients on the books has been rated “good” by an independent regulator.

The Care Quality Commission said Munro Medical Centre is doing well across all five service areas – safety, effectiveness, caring, response and leadership.

Chief inspector of general practice, Prof Steve Field, said: “It was also good for providing services for older people, people with long-term conditions, families, children and young people, working age people (including those recently retired and students), people whose circumstances may make them vulnerable and people experiencing poor mental health (including people with dementia).”

The report praised staff and facilities and noted that patients found it easy to make an appointment with a named GP and urgent appointments were available the same day.

A spokesman for the practice in West Elloe Avenue said: “This very positive rating recognises the commitment throughout the practice team in working hard to help our patients. The CQC were particularly impressed that patients rated the practice highly for several aspects of care, including being treated with compassion, dignity and respect and that patients were involved in decisions about their care and treatment.

“Importantly, the practice scored highly in cervical screening and in caring for patients with long term conditions. Good preventative care meant that the emergency admission rates for significant conditions such as diabetes and asthma was around half the national average – a real achievement.”
