Spalding United chairman plays down rumours of a Rayment exit

Spalding United chairman Andy Gay has refuted speculation that boss Pat Rayment is to leave the club.

A few rumours of his exit circulated on Twitter after Rayment decided to watch Tuesday’s 3-0 Evo-Stik League First Division South game from the stand behind the goal – and he even spent half time in the Tulips Social Club bar.

But Gay has confirmed that the Spalding supremo was simply looking at the match from a different perspective and he expects him to be in the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field dug-out against Daventry Town on Saturday.

Gay said: “There has been a lot of speculation on social media following last night’s (Tuesday) match against Shaw Lane Aquaforce regarding Pat Rayment’s future at the club.

“He decided to look at the game from a different angle, to assess the players without the pressure of being on the touchline, leaving that to club coach Danny Hussey and director of football Bob Don-Duncan.

“He and I have had a long and meaningful conversation this morning (Wednesday).

“He is still manager of this club and will take his place in the dug-out area again for Saturday’s game against Daventry Town.”
