Bren’s brilliant break helps Tulips A topple leaders

A sensational 54 clearance from Bren Bowman helped Tulips A beat Spalding and District Snooker League Division One leaders Holbeach A last week.

Bowman (O56), who also made a 32 break, beat Bobby White (O14) 96-52 to level the contest at 2-2 – before Mike Sampson (scr) won the all-important final frame for the Spalding side.

Earlier in the contest, Holbeach’s Jem Merrison (O35) made a fine 35 clearance against Martin Anderson (O7).

Holbeach A remain top despite their second loss of the campaign, with Bourne SC A hot on their heels.

That’s after they dispatched Boundary A 5-1 on their own baize, with star man Mark Gray (O105) pocketing a cool 43 break.

Services E missed the chance to gain ground on the table-toppers after a 4-2 home loss against Pyramid A.

The loss was harsh on Vince Fitter (O21), who made a 24 break and 22 clearance for the Spalding side.

Fourth-placed Donington A, meanwhile, propelled themselves bang into the title mix with a 5-1 home triumph over basement boys Consti B.

Nigel Brasier (scr) was their star man with a super 36 break.

At the other end of the table, defending champions Tulips B found some form with a 5-1 success over Services A.

A 47 break from Mark Woodberry (O42) was their highlight in what is only their third league win of the season so far.

The big game in Division Two pitted top two Crowland C and Pyramid B against each other – and it was away side Crowland who romped to a 5-1 success. A 43 break from the Bourne club’s Jason

Green (O56) was scant consolation for the home side, as Paul Spicer (O7), Russ Morse (O7), Jim Howe (O28) and Joel Shears (R7) all on winning form for Crowland.

Howe starred with a 27 clearance, while Spicer bagged a 21 break.

Elsewhere, Holbeach B saw off Crowland B 5-1 thanks to wins from Phil Coaten (O7), Barry Haynes (scr), Ben Harding (scr) and Neil Harvey (O14).

Gosberton B also picked up a win as they edged out Pyramid D 4-2 on the Bourne baize. Sam Craft (scr) clinched the victory in the last frame.

Another side winning 4-2 were Gosberton D, who pipped Consti I. Simon Slinger (scr) settled that one with a black-ball win over Richard Geddes (R14).

Down in Division Three, Services F bounced back from their first loss of the season with a 5-1 victory at struggling Whittlesey B.

Oliver Turner (O21) sealed the win – their seventh in eight league games – in the penultimate frame.

Second-placed Gosberton A chipped one point off their lead, though, as they won 6-0 at Consti E.

Also 6-0 winners were third-placed Whittlesey C, who had too much for Consti J. Andy Gebbie (R7) and Malc Bromfield (R14) both won their frames on the final black.

Consti C lost ground on the top three, however, as they went down 4-2 at Pyramid E – who enjoyed their first league win of the campaign. This one went the distance, with Neil McLean (R7) getting the all-important final frame success.

Meanwhile, Darren Crosby (O21) trousered a 24 break as Bourne SC B won 5-1 at in-form Long Sutton C.
