Super eight for Moulton Harrox as leaders continue their perfect start

Moulton Harrox 3
Thorney 0

Relentless Moulton Harrox stretched their winning run to eight ChromaSport Peterborough Premier Division matches on Saturday as they saw off visitors Thorney 3-0.

Dave Panton’s side remain top of the table with a perfect 24 points from eight games thanks to goals from Ben Allen, Joe Townsend and Tom Cardell at Broad Lane.

The in-form Allen opened the scoring when he cut inside his full-back and leathered the ball home with his weaker right foot.

Thorney had a couple of chances, but found MOTM keeper Lee Kenealy in fine form. Thorney paid for the misses as Townsend continued his great goal scoring form with a second just before the break.

The second period was bossed by Moulton – and they got their third when full back Cardell combined with Aris Placis and smashed home. To add to the positive vibes, new Moulton signing Ollie Maltby shone on his debut.

Panton said: “It was a very professional performance. We were solid at the back and created chances up front. We controlled the game very well. Thorney had a big team playing to their strengths, so possession was critical.

I thought our keeper was fantastic – not just making some good saves, but his distribution was excellent along with full-backs Groves and Cardell, who started our attacks.

“We’ve got a hard game away at Birchwood next week, but I hope to keep our winning streak going.”

Harrox: Kenealy, Cardell, Groves, Coddington, Patterson, King, Maltby, Townsend (Placis), Allen (Elderkin), Sandall (Wheeler), Bradbury.

Sat: Birchwood United v Harrox (Lincs Junior Cup)
