Criticism over ‘lenient’ jail sentence for retired teacher with 4,000 indecent images of children

A six-month prison term for former Spalding Grammar School head of music Eric Wayman for having thousands of indecent images of young boys has been criticised as too lenient.

Wayman (63) was jailed on September 18 after more than 4,000 images – including some in the most serious category – were found on computers at his Gosberton home.

Commenters on our Facebook page said the sentence was too short.
One said: “He and the likes of him have ruined 1000s of innocent lives…it’s going to take longer than six months for their sentence to end.”

However, another poster received support when she wrote that “being publicly ‘found out’ and disgraced is worse punishment than any jail term”.
