Landworkers in South Holland are being urged to clean up litter in rural areas as part of a new leaflet scheme.
Produced by South Holland District Council in conjunction with Spalding Police, the leaflets are written in Polish, Latvian, Lithuanian and English.
Each page displays an image of litter being placed into a bag with the message: “Please make sure that you put all your waste materials in the bags provided, or take it home with you.”
The leaflets are being handed out along with waste bags in Cowbit, Moulton and Weston initially, but they may spread to other towns and villages if the scheme proves successful.
The initiative, which is part of our successful Pride in South Holland campaign to clean up the district, comes after the Spalding East Rural Policing Community Panel identified littering in the villages as a growing concern.
Coun Anthony Casson (Moulton, Weston and Cowbit) said: “The new leaflets clearly depict and explain that litter should not be dropped and must be cleaned up.
“We’re confident that they will help to get the message across and stop this being a blight on our countryside.”
PCSO Bev Robinson said: “The issue has become a concern for local residents and we are tackling it as a priority.
“The leaflets will be given out to land workers, villagers and visitors to our district, asking them to respect the area and help keep our communities tidy.”
Julian Perowne, director of Jack Buck Farms, added: “We have seen more and more litter being thrown by roadsides or in fields. It then gets blown on to the land which can lead to contamination problems.”
Dennis Farnsworth, chair of the Spalding East Rural Policing Community Panel, added: “We’re not pointing the finger at anyone, we just want to raise awareness and help keep the district clean.”
