Big clean up success

An area of Spalding town centre which had become a litter hotspot is looking much cleaner thanks to two South Holland district councillors.

Couns Anthony Casson and Jack McLean decided to take matters into their own hands after receiving complaints from residents that the area surrounding Gore Lane was consistently full of rubbish.

Armed with litter pickers they got to work clearing up litter including beer cans, bottles, crisp packets and takeaway packaging.

The pair managed to fill five bags of litter and the work was carried out as part of South Holland District Council’s successful Pride in South Holland campaign.

Coun Casson said: “This area seems to be becoming a litter hotspot and a lot of people are getting fed up with the situation.”

Coun McLean added: “This was also a good chance for us to see the extent of the problem here first-hand and consider what can be done.”
