Rob Ambrose has warned his Spalding Town side that their plight in the Lincs ECB Premier League has become worrying.
Town are 24 points adrift at the foot of the table with just eight games to play after last weekend’s losing draw against Market Rasen.
This weekend sees Spalding play host to mid-table Lincoln Lindum – a side that cruised to a seven-wicket success in the reverse fixture back in May.
Captain Ambrose had previously said that Town could stay up by grinding out bonus points. But he now feels that a few wins will be needed if his side are to beat the drop.
Ambrose said: “Lindum are a funny old side really.
“I’ve always considered them as one of the strongest teams in the league.
“On their day, they are certainly capable of beating anyone. But they then are also prone to losing against the weaker sides. Hopefully that’s the case on Saturday.
“We’ll need to be positive and take the game to them. It’s a tough test for us, but that is the case every week at this level really.
“I am concerned about our current position, I’d be mad if I wasn’t. But there’s no use in moping around and feeling sorry for ourselves.
“The way the table looks isn’t great, we’re going to need more than just the odd point here and there by the looks of things.
“We’ve got a good young side that is improving every week, so we have to keep taking the positives. I’m convinced that the long-term future of this club is very bright.
“But if we don’t start getting a few results, the short-term future isn’t quite as good for us.”
Spalding welcome back three key players for the Spalding Grammar School clash, with all-rounder Nuwan Jayasena, and bowlers Charlie Kearns and Jack Barratt back in the fold. Long-term absentee Henry Charlton remains sidelined.
