Sunday saw the final race in the Morning Points series and the first two races in the Autumn Points series for the sailors at Welland Yacht Club.
They were greeted by a strong and fluky breeze and, thanks to the efforts of the Environment Agency weed contractors, a stretch of river that was far better to navigate than in recent weeks.
Nine boats were on the water for the first race of the day and it was Gerrit Van Haren (Phantom) first across the start line, closely followed by Toby Schrauwers (Laser Radial).
Last over the line was Richard Stedman (Comet) who retired shortly after due to a rigging error.
There were multiple capsizes across the fleet and although a lot of the sailors remained dry there were a few who went into the water.
The race was shortened from three laps to two and it was Van Haren first over the finish line and, following application of class handicaps, he held this position.
The final results were Van Haren, Jorrit Schrauwers (Solo), Adam Stabler (Laser), Alan Cox (Laser Radial), James Ramp (Laser Radial), Alistair Mitchell (Laser Radial), Toby Schrauwers (Laser Radial), Ali and Rachel Brightey (GP14), and Stedman who did not finish.
The overall Morning Points series winner was Helen Boyd, followed by Ramp and Jorrit Schrauwers.
Seven boats took the start for the second race of the day and despite the wind becoming more consistent there were still multiple capsizes and the Brighteys managed to get their GP14 tangled with one of the buoys which they dragged across the river and into the reeds. They managed to get free of the buoy and continue the race.
A close duel between Cox and Ramp on the run to buoy one ended abruptly when Cox capsized and struggled to get his boat upright again.
Stabler was ahead on the water for most of the race followed by Jorrit Schrauwers, Ramp, Cox, Toby Schrauwers, Mitchell, and the Brighteys.
On corrected times it was Ramp who took the win from Stabler followed by Jorrit Schrauwers, Cox, Toby Schrauwers, Mitchell, and the Brighteys.
Only six boats competed in the third race of the day with far less drama during the race but a very close fight at the finish line with Stabler, Ramp and Jorrit Schrauwers all crossing within 27 seconds of each other.
Again, Ramp was close enough to get his second win of the day on corrected time followed by Jorrit Schrauwers, Stabler, Mitchell, Cox and Toby Schrauwers.
