At the Spalding Town Forum I pointed out that the council had taken so much trouble over the plans for their proposed cemetery extension that it seemed clear to me that the decision had already been taken and objections were going to be ignored.
I would like someone with legal knowledge to examine the deeds mentioned by the Chiltern Drive resident in The Voice (July 16). I would like my doubts to be officially verified.
And as for ‘We have had trouble before with the police involved’, I suspect this refers to a group of high-spirited teenage boys who were gallivanting around the playing field, probably on their bikes, and wearing insufficient clothing, and then building a den behind the line of trees. If that is the case, the incident would have been in 2005 or 2006, and it says more about people’s ability to bear grudges than any dangers to others from men who are now in their mid-thirties.
Children need to be children and to have a safe place to play, and the current playing field, though a bit neglected by the Council, is as good as it can be. The long-term future of the burial ground can be secured only by opening a new site elsewhere.
