Support group for women in Holbeach launches

A new social group for women in Holbeach is launching this month.

Women’s Friendship and Support Group is set for its first meeting at Tonic Health’s Holbeach Hub on Thursday, July 30, from 6pm-8pm.

It will then take place on the second and fourth Thursday of each month.

It’s been set up after those behind it, Tonic Health’s rural co-ordinator Vanessa Collins and social proscriber on mental health Lynne Wyles, say they not feel it’s something many visitors to the hub could benefit from.

“There’s definitely a need for it in this area because it’s so rural and the transport links are not good,” said Lynne. “It’s easy for people to become isolated.”

“We’re aiming for it to be a safe and inclusive space,” added Vanessa. “We’re hoping to help build relationships for women.

“Any who moves to the area to meet people would have to go to the pub, which is not for everyone, or join a keep fit class.

“It’s difficult to find the time, especially if they have a job.

“That’s why we wanted our sessions to be in the evening,

“It’s about letting go of the frazzeldness and giving people a breathing space from their daily lives where they can meet others.

“With all the new housing estates, Holbeach is growing so the need for something like the group will only get bigger.”

The pair hope to build the event up so eventually it will include regular events like a lending library, health sessions and trips.

Initial sessions though will focus on getting to know each other and activities.

There will be a £3 charge for attendees which will go towards refreshments and the activities the group is looking to put on.
