Outstanding surgery report

A South Holland GP service has been found to be Outstanding overall by inspectors.

Gosberton Medical Centre was inspected in September but it took the Care Quality Commission until the end of March to publish the results.

“We conducted this assessment due to issues identified at our previous assessment in 2024 which had resulted in a warning notice being issued to the provider. Since the last inspection, the practice had made improvements and is no longer in breach of regulations,” the report says.

Of the five key areas highlighted in the report, the surgery was found to be outstanding in the categories of ‘effective’ and ‘responsive’. It was good for safety, caring and leadership.

“People were treated with kindness and compassion. Staff protected their privacy and dignity and treated people as individuals and supported their preferences,” it says.

“People were given choices about their care, were involved in planning and could access services in a timely way.”

Gosberton Medical Centre has more than 8,250 patients.

It has a proactive and positive culture of safety, based on openness and honesty. Representatives from the Patient Participation Group said concerns were taken seriously and improvements made.

“The service made sure there were enough qualified, skilled and experienced staff who received effective induction support, supervision and development. They worked together well to provide safe care than met people’s individual needs,” the inspection found.

“The facilities and equipment met the needs of people, were clean and well-maintained and any risks mitigated.

“There were enough staff with the right skills, qualifications and experience,” the report says. “The service worked with people and healthcare partners to establish and maintain safe systems of care in which safety was managed or monitored.

“They made sure there was continuity of care, including when people moved between different services,” the report notes.
