Solid draw for ladies’ 2nds

Spalding Ladies’ 2nd 2 St Ives 2nd 2

Spalding Ladies’ 2nds wrapped up their league campaign with a solid 2-2 draw against St Ives 2nds, finishing seventh in Division 3.
Spalding got off to a great start, taking the lead after ten minutes thanks to a lovely bit of team play from Vicky Worral and Emma Gent, finished off by player of the match Kelly Cooper.
St Ives hit back quickly, equalising on 15 minutes before taking the lead just five minutes later from a penalty corner to make it 2-1.
The second half saw Spalding dig deep and keep pushing, and their efforts paid off in the 53rd minute when Chloe P slotted home from open play to level things.
Spalding had to stay strong at the back towards the end, and Holly Gleave came up with some superb goal-line defending to deny St Ives and make sure the scores stayed level.
Both sides pushed for a winner, but it wasn’t to be, and the game finished 2-2.

This week saw Spalding Ladies’ 3rd promoted back into division 4NW and the Ladies’ 1st become the first side in the club’s history to hold their place in Division 1 NW. The end of the season will mean saying goodbye to goalkeeper Freya Lee, Hennie Boekestyn, Sophie Wilson and Sophie Gleave.
All four started from the age of seven, attending the Saturday junior sessions.
In March, the ladies welcomed the return of Evie Maltby, Laura Graves and Kelly Cooper but will be looking for experienced players and a goalkeeper for the start of the season to continue.

The club runs mixed summer 6s throughout May and June and non-members are welcome to join the club on a pay as you go system.
Pre-season training will begin in August where all levels of players are welcome.
The club has players across both men’s and ladies’ teams from teens to 50s and the most mature club members also enjoy walking hockey.
