A talk on a group dedicated to protecting Georgian architecture will take place as part of a Spalding group’s AGM.
The Spalding and District Civic Society are hosting the event at the Spalding Baptist Church on Swan Street on Tuesday, April 7.
As well as being an opportunity to learn about the society’s work, by James Darwin, head of casework at the Georgian Group will be the guest speaker.
A spokesman for the civic society said: “The talk will outline the history of the group from its aristocratic and often eccentric founders who were primarily concerned to avert the destruction of Georgian London, to the present.
“The talk also aims to give an overview of the wide variety of cases the Georgian Group now advises upon on a day-to-day basis, from the conversion of houses in Lincolnshire market towns to houses of multiple occupation, to church reordering schemes, major works to country houses, and large-scale city centre redevelopment projects.”
Established in 1961, Spalding and District Civic Society encourages high standards of architecture and town planning and promotes interest in the care of the existing amenities in the district, thereby fostering civic pride.
“The AGM provides an opportunity for people to learn about the work of the society, ask questions, to suggest ideas and even join our committee and be part of our efforts to encourage and promote actions that result in civic pride in Spalding,” the spokesman continued. “Our AGM is open to members of the society and non-members alike.”
It takes place at 7pm and is free to attend, though donations to offset event costs are welcomed.
