A century since they were recast, the bells of Spalding Parish Church rang out for five hours, 48 minutes on Saturday.
A group from the The Society of Royal Cumberland Youth took on a unique ‘double peal’.
One peal involves ringing the bells in as many non-repeating sequences as possible, 5,040 rings for St Mary and St Nicolas’s eight bells.
After starting at 10.10am, the team finally finished at 3.58pm.
They included Ian Butters who previously learned bell ringing at the church while living in the area.
The group itself is responsible for ringing bells in a number of churches in London.
Tower captain Paul Doades said: “Because of the length of the piece they were ringing they needed to have umpires monitor the piece.
“There were three umpires, monitoring in hour-long stints.
“The peal attempt was conducted by Alex Riley.
” Adam Greenway organised it all and got in touch to say thanks for allowing them to ring here and did mention that he felt a bit achy the next day.
“Alex, Jack and Ewan (the younger members of the band) rang a further peal of three hours, 24 minutes the following day at St Magnus the Martyr in London.”
