Perfect start for Lightning

Spalding Lightning maintained a 100 per cent start in national team competitions this season over the last weekend.
To begin and after their preliminary round win versus Melton IBC last month, the first round of the national under 30 open inter-club double rink against Lincoln IBC last Saturday saw a comfortable win, again by a 20 shot margin (43-23).
The home rink at Long Sutton of Danielle Wild, Ruby and Jordan Philpott dominated and won their rink by 24 shots to 12 and the away rink at Lincoln of Max Butters, Owen Aspinall and Stephen Harris finished strongly to win 19-11.
The next round is against Nottingham IBC on Sunday, November 23.
Following on from this, Spalding Lightning’s mixed top club team were again in action last Sunday, with a comprehensive victory once more in all disciplines away in the second round at Sleaford IBC and so collecting all available 16 match points (16-0).
After strong singles wins by former England international and World Indoor Singles semi finalist Graham Smith and current England ladies international skip Chelsea Spencer, the pairs, triples and fours rinks got home with a few ends to spare for the team to win on the road for a second time so far this season.
The next match is back at the Long Sutton home, this one versus Lincoln IBC on Sunday, December 7.
Rink scores: Ladies’ singles – Chelsea Spencer won 21-8; Men’s singles – Graham Smith won 21-14; Pairs – Annie Dunham and Dominic McVittie won 23-7; Triples – Danielle Wild, Stephen Harris and Jordan Philpott won 19-9; Fours – Ruby Philpott, Louise Harris, Martin Spencer and Mathew Orrey won 29-6.
qThe friendly team unfortunately had their home game versus Grantham IBC cancelled last Sunday afternoon by the opposition due to lack of players.
Hopefully, their next match should once more be at home at Long Sutton against Peterborough IBC on Saturday, November 22.
qApologies also go to Dale Parnell, who made his debut for the men’s Denny Cup team at the start of the month versus Boston IBC and this was not noted by the publicity officer. Congratulations again to Dale!
qThe club is in need of more ladies for its Tuesday afternoon group at Long Sutton.

qThe club is also on the lookout for people to join its open Monday lunchtime coaching sessions at Long Sutton.
