Exhibition hailed as a success

The first ever Greater Lincolnshire Exhibition was hailed a success, though there was only a handful of South Holland institutions on show.

The event was held last week at The Lincolnshire Showground, north of Lincoln, and is the brainchild of the new county mayor Dame Andrea Jenkyns.

There were 94 exhibitors in total with the Holbeach based Food and Enterprize Zone, Ace Tones Entertainment and Naylor Flowers from the district.

Guest speakers included vice president of Siemens Energy Mark Alexander and the Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham.

Dame Andrea told the Local Democracy Reporting Service that the show’s success would be getting investment into the area.

“I’ve been working in the background with our chief exec, meeting the embassies over a number of months, and this is to really showcase what our county is about. This is about inward investment and ensuring for future generations our county can thrive.”

Elsewhere she said that there were plans for a ‘new town’ in Lincolnshire, but did not say where that would be.

She was also asked about improving skills and transport in the south of the county.

“My vision is for the whole of the county. It’s to upskill everybody.

“It’s making sure that right across the county, including the south, that you have the infrastructure needed to get across the county.

“We know in the south of the county, especially in the rural villages, they haven’t got the transport links.”
