A fine first-half showing steered Spalding Town to a memorable PFA Junior Cup final victory over ICA Sports A last Wednesday night.

Tomasz Rabiega, Freddie Lambert and Marcus Parry all netted at Chestnut Avenue to give Chris Page’s men their first trophy since switching to the Peterborough League.

Town opened the scoring on 15 minutes as Rabiega bent a free kick straight into the top corner from 30 yards.

ICA levelled through Ricky Brown, but Town were soon back in front when Gav Bailey’s long throw was flicked on by Scott Burrell and bundled in at the back post by Lambert.

Town then extended their lead in the first half when Dean Grummitt forced a save from the Sports keeper, allowing Parry to fire home the rebound.

It was a different story after the break as ICA seized control. They did pull a goal back on 75 minutes when a deflected indirect free-kick from Thomas Webb beat man-of-the-match keeper Brendan Taylor.

Although the Peterborough side continued to press for the rest of the game, they failed to create any clear-cut chances and Town closed out the game well – allowing skipper Scott Phillips to proudly lift the trophy.
