Century of bowling them over

Spalding Bowls Club celebrated its 100th anniversary last weekend.

The club was founded in 1925 and played its first game on the pitch at Ayscoughfee Hall.

It played there until 1937 when it moved to land donated by George Adams, in what became Halmer Gardens.

It is still the home ground it and saw celebrations this weekend.

On Saturday (August 31) it held the Ted Bailey Memorial Trophy which was won by Stephen Lane.

Then on Sunday past and present members and their families were invited to join ‘less serious’ bowls competitions followed by afternoon and cakes.
