LETTERS – Will take 20 years to break even

I agree with all your readers who have written to you with their concerns about the prospect of wheelie bins to replace sacks.

I am also puzzled about the economics of the change.

Coun Jim Astill said it would save the authority around £500,000 every year. A total of £10.1m has been allocated to buy new vehicles and wheelie bins.

If these figures are correct it’s going to take at least 20 years to break even and by then the vehicles will probably need replacing.
