LETTERS – Well done on Armed Forces Day

Having been a Merchant Navy Association national member for over 27 years, I have attended many Armed Forces Day parades and similar events throughout the country.

In addition, I have been an organiser for the annual Merchant Navy Day Commemorative Service at the MN Memorial, London since 2000.

I was pleased to attend this year’s Spalding Armed Forces Parade last Tuesday.

The pipe band led the way followed by the colourful standards, civic dignitaries and veterans with the service to follow in the Market Place.

Afterwards everyone went to the parish church for entertainment by a singer and two groups of primary school children, all of whom sung appropriate songs and finally some refreshments.

For me it was a very well organised event by Coun Jan Whitbourn assisted by parade marshall, Alan Canham, Peterborough Highland Pipe Band and the standard bearers.

It was definitely one of the best I have attended. Well done everyone.
