Atapattu puts visitors on back foot but rain wins

The weather proved to be the winner in Spalding’s home match against Grantham in the Lincolnshire Board Premier League.

Spalding won the toss and putting their visitors in to bat appeared to be a good decision when they slumped to 29/4. Nilantha Atapattu  (3-32) took three of the wickets, including both openers.

At 77/6 the game was there to be won but a 102-run seventh-wicket stand between Sakhumuzi Ndlela (95) and Aryan Pandita (42) saved the match for Grantham.

Barnaby Dring (3-59) claimed both their wickets but the visitors went on to post 229/9 from their 43 overs.

Captain Ollie Dring made a lightning start to the response with two sixes and a four in a 21-ball 25 but lost three partners to Pandita before the rain forced a halt with the score on 32/3 in the eighth over.
