Wendy’s set to open its doors

An American chain is officially opening its doors in Spalding on Thursday, May 22.

Wendy’s at the Lincs Gateway Park near Applegreen has created 35 jobs.

A household name in the States with thousands of branches, there are now 44 in the UK including one of eight ran by the Blank Table company out of Peterborough.

Head of operations Ellie Weston said: “Spalding has been crying out for something that’s a bit more premium but is still affordable.

“It’s been so nice to see the team work so fast to bring this all together.

“They have really gelled already.”

Black Table managing director Carl Morris said the team that’s been set up are ‘phenomenal’.

“We want the best people to serve the best produce”, he said. “What’s different is all the products are produced fresh.

“You might have to wait a bit longer than you might do in McDonald’s, but 99 per cent walk away happy with a premium product.

“People are also always really surprised at how varied are menus are.”

The store opens at 7am on Thursday and it will be open until 10pm.

The first 50 to attend will be given a free t-shirt.

Breakfasts will be on the menu until 10.30am.

The Spalding branch’s general manager Mamta Mehmi comes from a wealth of experience in the catering industry.

“I’m very excited and looking forward to it,” she said. “It’s the best company I’ve worked for.

“We treat the customer with respect and serve the best quality of food so they keep coming back.”
