A Hereward win for Brand

Last Tuesday’s Spalding Cycling Club ten-mile time trial attracted 55 riders for the second round of the Hereward League.

The inter-club competition sees Spalding, Peterborough, Fenland Clarion and Bourne Wheelers go wheel-to-wheel.

The night’s winner was Dom Brand, of Spalding, returning to his time trial bike after starting his season on his road bike. He came home with a time of 21 minutes 27 seconds, 12 seconds ahead of Harry Tozer, of Fenland Clarion, with Spalding’s Matt Chappell a further 18 seconds back.

Fenland Clarions’ Theo Wan was the fastest road bike and 18th overall with a time of 24:01, beating Spalding returnee Neil Palmer (25:04) and Simon Pitchford, of Fenland (25:17).

Evgeniya Brand continued her strong start to the season by winning the ladies category in 25:40, leading home Bourne’s Jenni Wood, 26:41, and Fenland’s Tonya Smith, 26:49.
