Fans of Spalding United FC will find themselves in the comfort of a new stand if plans are approved.
The club has submitted a retrospective application for a 100-seat stand, with standing terrace and two dugout shelters at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field in Spalding.
It will be discussed by members of South Holland District Council’s Planning Committee next Wednesday.
“The works are required on site due to the club being promoted and therefore they must upgrade their facilities in line with FA requirements,” says a report to go before the planning committee.
It adds that the FA has awarded a grant towards the works needed.
Although the plans were received at the beginning of the year, the May meeting is the first available to accommodate the agenda item.
“The proposed development is to facilitate the comforts of attendees of matches by providing seating and shelter, along with the appropriate facilities for team managers. These facilities are required to comply with league rules,” the report adds.
The seated stand is on the east side, opposite the dugout and has a total length of 14m standing 3.75m high. It is constructed from corrugated sheets and looks similar to the stand on the south side of the site.
It is described as being ‘mostly concealed from view due to its location and fits well within the site due to its current use.’
The new dugouts are in a similar position to the previous dugouts and the replacements are an improvement.
They have 12 seats each and are hidden from views taken from Winfrey Avenue and Kings Road.
The seated stand is at least 50 metres away from any residential dwelling, says the application.
“Due to the aforementioned distances from any neighbouring properties, there would be no material overlooking or overshadowing from the retrospective stands and dugout with the neighbours to the east and north of the site keeping their existing levels of privacy and sunlight.”
After promotion last season, Spalding ended their first season in the Southern League Central Premier Division in seventh last weekend (see page 29).
