COLUMN: Spalding has plenty going on during April

April is upon us and the appearance of spring flowers, buds on trees and hedgerows, gives a feeling of anticipation and energy; well there is a lot to look forward to this April from a town centre perspective.

As well as the religious aspects of Easter, it is very much a time for families to get together and enjoy a few days out, go out for a meal and prepare the garden for spring.

It is also a time to purchase that special gift for a favourite aunt or loved one, such as a piece of jewellery or a bunch of flowers and, a bottle of good wine for that special family meal.

Many town centre retailers, pubs and restaurants have anticipated this and have many great deals on offer, so please do visit and support them.

As a special treat an Italian piazza (Italian market) will be open on the Sheep Market from 10am on Sunday, April 12 and with 16 speciality stalls selling freshly made Italian breads, olives, salumi (cured meats), cheeses, pasta, herbs, chocolates and extra virgin olive oil to name just a few of the items, there will be something for everybody’s taste.

It is intended to make this and the visit of other continental markets a regular thing to the town centre, so please do come along and fully support this enterprise.

Two amazing Italian restaurants in Spalding, Amici and Sergi’s, are also putting on special menus over this weekend, providing diners with the authentic taste of home cooked Italian dishes, so if you are after Passione Per Cucina, be sure to book early to avoid disappointment.

This is also the second clean up day for Spalding in Bloom, therefore if you are feeling energetic and want to do something for your community, please meet up at the Lincolnshire Poacher public house at 10.30am.

Over the weekend April 25 and 26 some of Spalding’s youth groups including the scouts, Girl Guides, Air Training Corps and Army Cadets will be holding a Youth Festival in the town centre, when they will be showing the public and in particular young people, what they have to offer.

The weekend will culminate in a St George’s Day parade through the Market Place and a “Promise” service at St Mary’s and St Nicolas Church.
