South Holland will remember the fallen this week.
- There’s three parades in and around Spalding. The usual Remembrance Sunday parade takes place in Spalding Town Centre.
The public are invited to join veterans and serving forces in Spalding Town Centre from 10.30am.
The parade will head to Ayscoughfee for a service at the war memorial at 11am.
An event will also take place at Spalding Cemetery near to the war graves. Muster 10.45am for an 11am service.
On Remembrance Day itself (Monday, November 11) a parade will take place in the gardens of Springfields Shopping Outlet and conclude at the war memorial there.
Muster at 10.45am ahead of the 11am laying of the wreaths. - Holbeach’s Remembrance Sunday event takes place in the morning with High Street closing at 10am when those attending will muster ahead of a 10.30am start.
A service will take place at the war memorial, before another in All Saints Church at 11.30am.
l Pinchbeck’s parade will also be that morning which will see Bear Lane and Church Street closed at times.
Spalding Marching Ambassadors will accompany the parade from Bear Lane to the Church. It’s set to start at 10.30am.
l - Gosberton Methodist Church is hosting a united service at 10am before attendees move to the war memorial for 11am.
A gathering at the war memorial in Gosberton Risegate will also take place at 10am.
The following day, Monday November 11, there will be another wreath laying at the Gosberton War Memorial at 11am. - Donington is once again holding its Remembrance Service at the parish church on Sunday starting at 10am.
- In Long Sutton, the public are invited to gather at the Royal British Legion Club from 1.45pm.
Those in attendance will then parade to the war memorial. - A service at the war memorial in Crowland will take place at 3pm on Sunday to be followed by a service in Crowland Abbey with tea and coffee available in The Hub.
That’s where the Thursday Morning Local History Group are putting up a display on the First World War including many artefacts from it.
It will be open from 1pm to 4pm on Sunday.
A spokesman for Crowland Parish Council said: “The group has been gathering information about each soldier on the Crowland War Memorial.
“Items on display include uniform, rifles, bullets and grenades,
“All are welcome and if anyone has information that could help our research we would be very grateful for the opportunity to see it.
“Teas and coffees will be available.”
