On Sunday, Spalding Lightning safely negotiated their way into the third round of the Egham Trophy with a convincing win against Grantham, 108-32.
Although the away rinks certainly played their part on a tricky surface, it was a dominant performance at home.
Spalding Lightning won on all four rinks, top winning rink was skipped by Annie Dunham, with Dan Mills, Julie Hicks and Kevin Ekins who had an incredible 41-3 rink win.
Next up are Boston on Sunday, November 17.
Rink scores: Home – Dan Mills, Julie Hicks, Kevin Ekins and Annie Dunham won 41-3.Danielle Wild, Tracy Philpott, Graham Smith and Jordan Philpott won 37-7.
Away – Ruby Hill, Louise Harris, Stephen Harris and Mathew Orrey won 15-10. Jean Patterson, Simon Lilley, Chelsea Spencer and Dominic McVittie won 15-12.
qOn Saturday, there were mixed emotions for Spalding Lightning as the men progressed in the Denny Cup with a comfortable win against Sleaford, but the ladies lost a close match in the first round of the Yetton Trophy against Boston.
Starting with the Denny Cup, Spalding Lightning had an early scare as the away rinks were 15-2 behind at five ends, but when they got to grips with the green, it was a good performance both home and away which turned into a comfortable overall win (96-50).
Spalding Lightning won on all four rinks but the top winning rink was skipped by Tristan Morton, with Dan Mills, Brian Martin and Ean Morton who had an impressive 28-12 rink win, especially from 8-0 behind.
Next up for the defending national champions are Grantham on Saturday, November 16.
In the Yetton Trophy, Spalding Lightning’s ladies started well as they were seven shots up at five ends, but Boston soon found a foothold in the match where they eventually won by six shots (69-75).
Boston won on three rinks, but Spalding Lightning did manage one winning rink which was the away rink of Sheila Chamberlain, Maggie Wheatley, Mandy Parkin and Julie Hicks who won 24-11.
Although a loss in this competition, Spalding Lightning’s ladies will now go into the Yetton Plate.
Their first round will also be played on Saturday, November 16 against Sleaford.
Denny Rink Scores: Home – Ollie Jeapes, Jack Wells, Graham Smith and Stephen Harris won 23-11. Kevin Ekins, Owen Aspinall, Simon Lilley and Jordan Philpott won 24-14.
Away – Dan Mills, Brian Martin, Ean Morton and Tristan Morton won 28-12. Lewis Parnell, Martin Simpson, Martin Spencer and Dominic McVittie won 21-13.
Yetton Rink Scores: Home – Carole Nunney, Danielle Wild, Betty Deaton and Chelsea Spencer lost 17-20. Jean Patterson, Petrine Ault, Tracy Philpott and Karen Martin lost 14-21.
Away – Sheila Chamberlain, Maggie Wheatley, Mandy Parkin and Julie Hicks won 24-11. Ann Newbury, Jan Sinclair, Sandra Hammond and Maisie Belding lost 14-23.
qOn Thursday, Spalding Indoor Bowls Club hosted Stamford in their second match of the season in the Trudy Bates.
Although Spalding started well and led for most of the match, Stamford showed their battling qualities as they went in front towards the end of the match.
However, it was Spalding which finished the stronger of the two teams as they won by five shots (76-71).
Although the match was closely contested, Spalding won on three rinks and won 12-2 on match points.
Top winning rink was skipped by Maggie Wheatley, with Shelia Chamberlain, Sue Slayven and Trish Stafford who won 23-14.
Special mention to Sue Jackson and June Angus who played their first game in the Trudy Bates.
Next match will also be played at home against Lincoln on Thursday, November 14.
