Curry and Gaunt put Bourne on top

A new Spalding & District Billiards League season started on Monday and Bourne SC leaped straight to the top of the standings.
They enjoyed a 5-2 win at Consti A, despite conceding the first frame to Alan Hansard (R70), who had breaks of 23 and 25. Tony Curry (R60) and Lester Gaunt (O20) hit back for victory with Gaunt hitting breaks of 41, 37 and 24 to go with a 25 clearance.
All the other matches were decided by the odd game in seven. Holbeach A were the evening’s only home winners, seeing off stablemates Holbeach B. Mick Cooper (O200) had breaks of 48, 33, 31 and 22 but lost to Andy Spearman (R90). Breaks of 29, 26 and 23 earned victory for Ben Harding (R20), with Phil Coaten (R90) also successful.
Gosberton emerged 4-3 victors at Pyramid B thanks to wins from Des Forbes (R50) and Marcus Pell (O40). Martin O’Connor (R100) was the home winner.
Consti B enjoyed a 4-3 success at Donington. Mick Johnson (O15) had breaks of 38, 23 and 21 but lost to Ben Wrigglesworth (scr). Jason Rose (scr) and Jason Bloomfield (R70) were the away winners.
