Tower Road teams hit heights in table

Spalding Hockey Club hosted the first of the year’s five primary school tournaments at Glen Park, Surfleet, on Friday.

Eighteen teams from 13 schools participated, giving many of the 150 children their first opportunity to represent their school at hockey.
In League A, Monks House won all four of their matches, beating John Harrox (1-0), Gosberton Academy and Tower Road (both 2-0) and Ayscoughfee (3-0) to top the table.
Gosberton Academy also had an impressive start, recording 1-0 wins over Ayscoughfee and John Harrox before ending their afternoon with a hard-fought scoreless draw against Tower Road to clinch second spot.
Tower Road started strongly with a 5-0 win over St Norbert’s in League B but were held to a 2-2 draw by fellow Bostonians St Thomas’ in their second game. They then claimed top spot with a 3-1 win over St John’s in the final deciding game.
St John’s had previously recorded impressive victories over St Thomas’ (3-0) and St Norbert’s (2-0) but had to settle for second spot.
In League C, Tower Road demonstrated their strength in depth as another of their teams won all four matches. They beat Gosberton Risegate (1-0), St Thomas’s (3-0), Eye Primary (2-0) and Pinchbeck East (4-0) to top the table in comfort.
Risegate showed a great deal of promise with a couple of 4-0 wins over Pinchbeck East and St Thomas’ and a goalless draw against Eye Primary to clinch second place.
Spalding Parish swept all before them in League D, winning all their games without conceding a goal, recording impressive victories over Surfleet Primary (2-0), Gosberton Academy (2-0) and Ayscoughfee (4-0).
Surfleet Primary bounced back after their first loss to beat Ayscoughfee (3-1) and Gosberton Academy (1-0) and secured second place.
The second tournament is scheduled for Friday, November 15.
