Young people went scouring for rubies around Donington recently.
The Hunt the Ruby event was put on by security and fire specialists GBSG, which is based in the village and is celebrating its 40th (or ruby) anniversary this year.
There were 60 rubies hidden in and around the village with 25 people seeking them out.
The largest, an 80mm ruby (disguised as a paperweight), came with a reward of a £50 gift voucher for chief explorers, Thomas Howsam and Claire Ward.
There were rewards for finding the smaller rubies too. Scarlett and Amber received a £25 gift voucher for the second largest ruby and George Pitts secured the £10 voucher.
A number of smaller rubies were collected and handed in for sweets and sensory toys by other children taking part.
Upon arrival and after the event, participants were treated to refreshments of fresh fruit, cupcakes and biscuits.
“It was a fantastic morning that successfully brought members of our community together for the race to the rubies’ said organiser Eleanor Jackson, GBSG’s marketing co-ordinator. “We are proud of what we have achieved in the last 40 years and we hope to build the business further in the future, creating opportunities for people in the local community.”
