Book in at library

Spalding Library has launched its summer reading challenge as well as a host of connected events through the school holidays.

The ‘Marvellous Makers’ challenge is for children aged four to 11.
To complete it they’ll need to read six books of their choosing before September.
There will also be a host of events to help them:
* Thursday, July 25, 10am to 2pm – Make a photo frame to hold your summer memories.
* Thursday, August 1, 10am to 2pm – Junk Modelling – go along and make a junk model out of recyclable materials.
* Thursday, August 8, 10am to 2pm – Dino Day – enjoy roarsome dinosaur crafts and activities.
* Thursday, August 15, 10am to 2pm – Pirates and Princesses Day – Ahoy there mateys! Fun crafts and activities – fancy dress is optional!
* Thursday, August 22, 10am to 2pm – Magical Musical Instruments – make a tambourine and other musical instruments.
* Thursday, August 29, 10am to 2pm – Marvellous Masks – make yourself a vibrant and colourful festival mask.
A spokesman for the library service said: “This year’s challenge celebrates kids’ creativity and storytelling abilities.
“Children will be encouraged to explore new books and stories while taking part in free activities, from arts and crafts to music and more.
“The bespoke challenge artwork is illustrated by celebrated artist Natelle Quek, bringing the ‘Marvellous Makers’ theme vibrantly to life.
“By reading books and collecting incentives at Spalding Library, young readers can foster their creative thinking skills over the summer break.”
Amanda Reynolds, library manager at Spalding Library, said “We have so many fabulous and free Summer Reading Challenge events and activities planned this year, and can’t wait to welcome children and their families into our library to take part during the summer holidays.
“This year’s creative theme has given us lots of scope for fun activities combining arts and crafts and we can’t wait to get making some marvellous creations!”
